The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), formed in 1852, is the oldest engineering society in the United States. With a national membership of over 115,000 professional members and over 15,000 students, ASCE seeks to enhance the quality of living throughout the world by advancing professional knowledge and improving the civil engineering (CE) practice. These aspirations are best expressed in the Engineering Code of Ethics.
ASCE Student Chapters
There are currently over two hundred ASCE student chapters and clubs throughout the college campuses of the nation. To help prepare future engineers for their careers, each chapter sponsors meetings, regional conferences, student competitions, and other activities. Many scholarships and awards are also available for outstanding civil engineering students.
Florida Tech’s ASCE Student Chapter
Florida Tech's ASCE student chapter is a very active organization. Fifty undergraduate and graduate students work together on various local and national projects, most prominently the Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge Competitions. These students elect officers who oversee the organization’s activities. Faculty advisors, Dr. Paul J. Cosentino and General Ralph V. Locurcio, work closely with the student chapter to make ASCE an excellent learning experience.
The ASCE Southeastern Student Conference is the highlight of the year for Florida Tech. The ASCE southeastern region encompasses thirty of the nation’s finest civil engineering programs from Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama.
